Maurice R. Greenberg
Maurice Raymond " Hank " Greenberg ( born May 4, 1925 in New York) is an American manager.
He was Chairman and CEO of the American insurance company AIG until 2005, after which he was chairman and CEO of CV Starr and Company, a financial services group, which is named after the founder Cornelius Vander Starr - AIG. Greenberg is since 1950 married to Corinne Phyllis Zuckerman and has four children with her. His parents are Jacob Greenberg and Ada Greenberg, born Rheingold. Among his children are Jeffrey W. Greenberg and Evan G. Greenberg, with whom he shared a large portion of the American insurance industry dominates today.
Life
Maurice Greenberg served during the Second World War in the United States Army and participated among others in the landings in Normandy and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
He studied law at the University of Miami and at New York Law School, where he graduated in 1950 made ( LLB). Then he participated in the Korean War, where he achieved as a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps to the rank of captain. In 1953 he received his license to practice law in New York.
Since working for AIG beginning of the 1960s, he was chosen in 1968 by Cornelius Vander Starr as his successor. Greenberg was the company CEO until 2005, when he amid fierce financial scandals (including accusations of creative accounting and fraud that have been raised by Eliot Spitzer, a government bailout totaling 152 billion USD) was eliminated and Martin J. Sullivan was replaced.
Criminal charges against Greenberg proved all to be unfounded, however, take the civil law disputes at a considerable height up to the present continuous.
In the 1980s, he was the Deputy Director of the CIA offered due to its international expertise of the Reagan administration, but he refused. From 1998 to 2005 he was also active in the U.S. advisory bodies for Hong Kong in a leading position. In addition, he kept and maintains other significant mandates in corporate management, humanitarian organizations and relevant advisory bodies.
Greenberg is friends with Henry Kissinger, whose consulting services he also business for various countries, especially in Asia, took to complete. Nicknamed " Hank " he owes a baseball player in the 1930s, Hank Greenberg.
