Mauritia Eleonora of Portugal

Mauritia Eleonora Princess of Portugal (* May 10, 1609, † June 25, 1674 in Bergen op Zoom ) was the ninth of ten children of Don Emanuel of Portugal ( 1568-1638 ), son of Maltese Priors and self-proclaimed king of Portugal Antonio of Crato, and Emilia Countess of Nassau (1569-1629), the youngest daughter of William of Orange.

Life

Mauritia Eleonora had, as her other sisters also due to the escape of her oldest sister at the altar, poor chances on the marriage market at that time. After her mother Emilia, who resided in Switzerland in Prangins Castle 's death, she returned in 1629 to the Netherlands to the court of her great uncle Frederick Henry of Orange, Stadtholder of the United Netherlands, and Amalie of Solms- Braunfels.

Her cousin Louise Henriette of Orange was her cousin Charles Henri de la TREMOILLE promised, however Mother Amalie has tried to hook up with Luise King Charles II of England. When Charles II gratefully declined and the matter became public, was Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg interest. Out of gratitude arranged Amalie on June 4, 1647 's- Gravenhage (now The Hague) the marriage of the already 38 -year-old Eleonora Mauritia with Georg Friedrich, Prince of Nassau- Siegen ( 1606-1674 ). From this marriage the children were born:
