Mausoleum of the Atilii

The Mausoleum of Attilier in Sádaba, a municipality in the province of Zaragoza of Aragon ( Spain) Autonomous Region, is a Roman mausoleum from the 1st century AD The grave monument is a protected monument ( Bien de Interès Cultural ).

Location

The mausoleum was due to the formerly busy Roman road from Tarragona to Pamplona and does not constitute a representation architecture

Description

The Mausoleum of Attilier from the early imperial period is part of a grave district. It has over a base zone a series of five arched niches, which is divided by a cranked Pilasterarchitektur with gable statements. A Kyma forms the upper end. This front is decorated with garlands and emblems. The 9.20 meters long and 4.72 meters high mausoleum is made of local sandstone. In the two outer slots, a five-pointed flower decoration has received. In the central niche of a medusa and the side niches, an eagle and a taenienbefestigte pickaxe can be seen.

In the entablature of the main niches are the following three Latin inscriptions:

Translation: " For Gaius Atilius genialis, son of Lucius, of the tribe Quirina, her grandfather ( let this grave build ) Atilia Festa. "
