Max von Stephanitz

Max Emil Friedrich von Stephanitz ( born December 30, 1864 in Dresden, † April 22, 1936 ) was a German dog breeders.

Life

The desire of his family in obedience he embarked on a career as an officer. During the maneuver, he observed enthusiastically the work of a dog with a flock of sheep. Was impressive for him, as the shepherds were able to direct the dog by acclamation and signs. Here lie the roots of the decision to breed the German Shepherd Dog. He began to look at the existing land punches. On January 15, 1898, he bought the 3 -year-old male Hector links Rhine from Frankfurt breeder saving water. Von Stephanitz the male gave the name of Count Horand Rath; this dog was the progenitor of all German Shepherd dogs.

In his efforts towards the Association for German Shepherd Dogs was founded in Karlsruhe on 22 April 1899 its first president he was.

He was buried in the Trinity Cemetery in Dresden.
