Maya Lin

Maya Ying Lin (林 璎, Pinyin: Lín Ying, born October 10, 1959 in Athens / Ohio) is an American artist and architect of Chinese descent. Her best-known work is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.

The daughter of the Dean of Fine Arts at Ohio University and a professor of literature studied at Yale. At the age of 21, she still won a student competition to design the Vietnam Memorial Vietnam Veterans Memorial which was opened to the public on 13 November 1982.

Additional work Lins heard the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama ( 1989). She also belonged to the committee that picked the memorial to the attacks of September 11th in New York.

In 2009, she was honored by the U.S. President Barack Obama with the National Medal of Arts.
