Mayerling

Mayerling is a place in the Vienna Woods, Lower Austria, and cadastral village and the municipality of Alland in the district of Baden.

Geography

The Rotte is on 326 m above sea level. A. Height to the Schwechat, 1 ½ miles south-east of Alland and 2 ½ miles south-west of the Holy Cross. Meyerling is about 12 km northwest of the town of Baden on the B 210 Alland - Baden ( Baden Street ).

The place Mayerling consists primarily of the lodge at Mayerling with the Carmel ( Carmelite monastery Mayerling ), the Franciscan Monastery Mayerling with nursing home, a restaurant, the Hotel Restaurant Hanner and some detached houses.

The village comprises about 50 buildings with about 140 inhabitants. History

The place is already mentioned as murlingen 1136 and was probably founded by the Abbey of Heiligenkreuz from. The family of those to Murlingen is then probably at the end of the 12th century erschloschen again. The estate was returned to the pen, which led the estate over 700 years.

From the 15th century a church was built for St.. Lawrence, which was integrated into the present castle complex.

Through a tragedy of the place has become famous as a destination for many culturally interested tourists. Crown Prince Rudolf in Mayerling shot - he had only a few years previously purchased the castle and converted to his country seat - on January 30, 1889 until his mistress Mary Vetsera and then committed suicide.
