Mažice

Mažice ( German Maschitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers north-west of Veseli nad Lužnicí in South Bohemia and belongs to Okres Tábor.

Geography

Mažice is located in the land Soběslavská blata in Trebon Basin. The village is located on the right side of the creek Brod at the confluence of Stružka. To the south rises the Panský Kopec (434 m). To the north extends the moor Borkovická blata, in the north- east, the Moor Kozohlůdky.

Neighboring towns are Komarov, Naděje and Svinky in the north, Borkovický Dvůr Záluží, Vesce, Čeraz, Soběslav and Dráchov in the northeast, Borkovice in the east, Veseli nad Lužnicí and Sviny the southeast, Sedlíkovice and Dolni Bukovsko in the south, Horni Bukovsko and Sobětice in the southwest, Hartmanice in the west and Zálší and Klečaty in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of Mažice took place on 1 April 1354 as sold Ulrich IV of Neuhaus part of the village together with Zálší, Sviny, Svinky, Vlastiboř and Borkovice to the Rosenbergs. The greater part belonged to the archbishop's goods in Moldova Thein. Jost I. von Rosenberg sold his share to Mažice on January 23, 1364 to Martin Hlaváč of Mutice. Was the owner of the former archbishop's share in 1541 Volf Hozlauer of Hozlau on Bzi, this proportion was connected to the Good Zálší still in the 16th century. The other part belonged to Veseli. In 1840 Maschitz consisted of a total of 59 houses with 390 inhabitants. After the abolition of patrimonial Mažice formed in 1850 a municipality in the district team Trebon / Wittingau and the jurisdiction Veseli nad Lužnicí. After the abolition of Okres Trebon Mažice was assigned to the newly formed Okres Soběslav 1948. From 1953, the peat was a large area expanded and gained up to the attitude in 1980 1.7 million tonnes of peat. The Okres Soběslav 1961 was disbanded and assigned to the municipality the Okres Tábor. At the same time the incorporation took place after Zálší. This together Mažice was incorporated into Borkovice on 1 July 1980.
