The Mcleod River at the headwaters

The Mcleod River is a tributary of the Athabasca River in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. About the Athabasca River and Slave River it belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Mackenzie River.

The river rises in the western province of Alberta, just outside of Jasper National Park at the confluence of Thornton Creek and Cheviot Creek. The two creeks are fed by melt water on the western flanks of Tripoli Mountain and Cheviot Mountain. The Mcleod River then follows the Grave Flats Road and takes to the waters of Prospect Creek, White Horse Creek and Cadomin Creek before it empties into Lac Des Roches, which lies south of the city Cadomin.

The river winds through the foothills of the mountains then. Soon lead four major tributaries a Gregg River, Erith River, Embarras River and Edson river before the Mcleod River finally flows in Whitecourt in the Athabasca River.
