Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration

The mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (german mean corpuscular / cellular hemoglobin concentration, MCHC ) is the average concentration of hemoglobin hematocrit ( red blood cell mass ). In healthy individuals, this value is 33-36 grams per deciliter. It can be calculated as follows:

The MCHC is often normal, while MCV and MCH change largely in the same direction with changes in the blood picture.

An increase in the MCHC may indicate high-titer cold agglutinins. An increase in normal MCH may indicate a hereditary spherocytosis. A reduction may, among other things associated with iron and pyridoxine deficiency, thalassemia, anemia sideropenic.
