Meandrina meandrites

The Meandrinidae are a family of stony corals ( Scleractinia ). To the family includes five genera living in the Caribbean with twelve types. Two more living in the tropical Pacific species are traditionally made in the family, their assignment is no longer secured today. All extant genera of Meandrinidae live with zooxanthellae in symbiosis and relate them to the main body of the needed nutrients. In addition, the extinct corals genera Aulosmilia, Diploctenium, Flabellosmilia, Glenarea, Nefophyllia, Pachygyra, Phragmosmilia, Phyllosmilia and Strotogyra are counted in the family.
