MediaMonkey

MediaMonkey is a proprietary audio player for Microsoft Windows, which is available in a free and a paid version.

Functions

MediaMonkey can manage music collections, read audio CDs, burn CDs and create playlists. These lists can be on the one hand to play with the internal player or through Winamp. Also, plug-ins for Winamp are mostly compatible with MediaMonkey. These is the ability of the program that many selectable additional information can be applied to a piece of music and you can comfortably search for it.

MediaMonkey can archive and manage a large number of media files because an internal SQLite database is used ( before version 3 was an Access database using ). Any changes to the ID3 tags and album cover artwork also be written directly in the files on demand, at a loss of the virtual database so no information is lost.

Missing tags can be queried via amazon.com or via CDDB. Is through Amazon, if necessary, a cover image retrieved. MediaMonkey also allows manual and detailed ID3 tag editing. In addition to individual playlists, there is the possibility to create different auto playlists, play the pieces with a certain mood or songs of a particular genre.

MediaMonkey supports the following audio formats:

  • RIFF WAVE
  • MPEG Audio Layer 3 (MP3)
  • ( Ogg ) Vorbis
  • Advanced Audio Coding (AAC)
  • Windows Media Audio (WMA)
  • Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC)
  • Monkey's Audio ( APE)
  • Musepack (MPC )
  • Compact Disc Audio (CDA )

By adding additional input modules extend the list of supported formats of nearly any size.

Synchronization with an MP3 player can be done via USB Mass Storage (UMS ) and via the Media Transfer Protocol ( MTP). Likewise, certain phones like the Apple iPhone synchronize with Media Monkey. After intermittent problems even Apple devices with the iOS4 operating system are supported since version 3.2.2.1300 now.

The program can also arrange music files based on their tags, analyze their volume and adjust evenly, up statistics or independently perform simple tasks with scripts.

Variants and versions

The audio player is available in two variants:

  • The freeware version
  • The paid version of MediaMonkey Gold, with extended functionality.

Some features are disabled in the free version ( for example, the sleep timer ) or severely restricted ( the burning of audio CDs is only at four times the speed possible, MP3 files can be created only 30 days long). If one replaces the file lame_enc.dll in the program directory with the original file from the LAME project, you can work around this limitation. It is even noted on the official website.

In version 2.5 were common problems with the proper display of the playing time of a track when it was originally read by MusicMatch Jukebox program.

In the third version of the program existing features have been improved and layout revised, on the receipt of " MediaMonkey Feelings" However, emphasis has been placed. Now the season said title is displayed correctly. Also added is an overview of the CD cover.
