Meenambakkam

Meenambakkam (Tamil: மீனம்பாக்கம் Mīṉampākkam [mi ː ː k ː nʌmba ʌm ] ) is a district of Chennai (Madras ), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Meenabakkam is around 15 kilometers from the city center on the southwestern edge of Chennai. Administratively, it forms one of 200 districts ( wards ) of Chennai and is in Zone Alandur. Prior to the expansion of the city of Chennai Meenambakkam 2011 was a separate town (town panchayat ) in Kanchipuram district with an area of 2.35 square kilometers and a population of 4,774 ( 2001 census).

Meenambakkam is the location of the airport Chennai. The largest part of the district is occupied by the airport. The actual area is only a few blocks of flats between the airport and the expressway National Highway 45 ( Grand Southern Trunk Road). Meenambakkam has a station on the southwest line of Chennaier suburban train (Chennai Suburban Railway).
