MEETin

The meetin group is a web-based social community with the goal of small local events ( called "events" ) to organize. In this case, a gain being neither raised nor monthly fees at events aimed at. Since its inception in the U.S. in 2003, the organization expanded to over 90 cities around the world. Currently, it has 75,000 members, including four cities in German-speaking countries. About 30,000 events were previously planned.

History

Meetin was founded in March 2003 by Mikey Heard in Washington DC, to meet other people in the anonymity of the big city. When the group was active in Washington, they spread to 16 other cities in the U.S., of which she is still active today in some.

Infrastructure

Although meetin started as a Yahoo Group, Heard completed soon own website in order to cope with the increasing number of members and cities. This site is now the basis of the meetin group and is still used as the initial infrastructure.

Meetin Events

Meetin events are mostly smaller events that are organized by the members. Widely used are meeting in bars and restaurants, but also from attending events such as concerts, sporting events, local festivals, museums and cinemas. The spectrum includes excursions and sporting activities, private parties or game nights in the homes of members. In general, any meetin member is welcome at every event. "Business networking", single and dating events are, however, not allowed. Also, a Member who is organizing an event, it will not benefit financially.

Meetin in German speaking countries

Since 2004 MEETinGENEVA was founded in Geneva on 26 June there is Meetin in German-speaking countries. Since then, the cities of Dusseldorf, Bonn, Hamburg and Munich have been added, with MEETinDUESSELDORF currently has the most members and events.

A special feature of the meetin cities in non-English speaking countries is the very high proportion of members who do not speak the local language or just bad. Therefore, in these cities is often English is the official language, or at least all texts are translated into English. The groups in these cities are so much more international than in America's cities.
