Megadontomys

The Thomas Hart mice ( Megadontomys ) are a living in Central America rodent genus of the group of the New world. It includes three types.

These rodents reach a total length of 30 to 35 centimeters, of which 15 to 19 inches accounted for by the tail, and a weight of 60 to 110 grams. Their fur is yellow-brown or brownish at the top, the belly and feet are white.

Thomas Hart mice are located exclusively in the central and southern Mexico. Their habitat should be humid forests height up to 2600 meters. They are bottom dwellers and place on trails for faster advancement. Their diet consists mainly of berries and fruits.

There are three types:

  • Megadontomys cryophilus inhabited highlands in northern Oaxaca.
  • Megadontomys nelsoni is distributed from Hidalgo to Veracruz.
  • Megadontomys thomasi lives in mountainous countries in Guerrero.

They are closely related to the white-footed or deer mice ( Peromyscus ) and are sometimes incorporated into this genus. The differences lie mainly in the construction of the penis.
