The Mega Sports Arena (formerly Khodynka Arena (Russian Ледовый дворец спорта на Ходынском поле, transcription Ledowy Dworez sporta na Chodynskom pole ) on the Chodynkafeld is a multifunctional hall in the Russian capital Moscow. The completed end of 2006 Arena seats up to 13,926 spectators.

History

After decades in the largest city in Russia, no new major sports halls were built - the "old" date back to the time of the Soviet Union - decided to build a multi-purpose hall, the city government after the award of the Hockey World Cup 2007 to Russia.

Construction began in November of 2005, the official opening of the arena on 15 December 2006. Ranks and lodges have a capacity of 12,126 seats, plus up to 1,800 additional seats can be installed in the stadium 's interior.

Use

The center is primarily used by basketball and ice hockey teams.

In 2007, the arena together with the Mytischtschi Arena hosted the 71st World Ice Hockey Championship for Men, which took place in Russia. In addition, the Final Four tournament in the CEV Champions League was played in the Arena 2006/ 07, at the Tours Volley -Ball defeated VfB Friedrichshafen in the final. In January 2008, the PBC CSKA Moscow wore a Euro League game in the arena, that was with almost 13,000 spectators almost sold out. Since 2007, the arena also hosts the Cup of Russia figure skating. On 13 October 2007, the arena was the venue of the boxing match between the Russian Sultan Ibragimov and American Evander Holyfield. In 2011, the World Figure Skating Championships took place there.
