Megilot Regional Council

The regional administration Megilot (Hebrew מועצה אזורית מגילות, Mo'atza Azorit Megilot ) is a regional administration in the southeastern West Bank in Israel Judea and Samaria.

The name means Megilot scroll and refers to the Dead Sea Scrolls, which were found at Qumran, on the territory of today's regional administration.

The seat of government is in Vered Jericho.

Location

The area of the regional administration in the eastern part of the Judean Desert on the western shore of the Dead Sea.

History

Israel occupied in the Six Day War of 1967, the territory of today's regional administration. In 1981 a separate administrative unit was established for the resulting Israeli settlements since 1968.

Population

Megilot with only 1,100 residents in 2010, the least populated regional government of Israel.
