Mehdi Carcela -Gonzalez ( born July 1, 1989 in Liege, Belgium ) is a Belgian footballer of Moroccan- Spanish descent. Since 2013, the midfielder is the Belgian first division club Standard Liege under contract.

Career

Association

Carcela -Gonzalez began his professional career in 2008 in the first team of Standard Liege. His debut in the highest Belgian league was the offensive player on September 13, 2008 compared to KV Kortrijk. He was substituted in the 81st minute for Igor de Camargo; the game was won 2-0. He also came on 18 December 2008 his first appearance at European club level, when he came on in the UEFA Cup group match against VfB Stuttgart in the 65th minute for Wilfried Dalmat. The game in Stuttgart was lost with 0:3. At the end of his debut season was Standard Liege Belgian champion; furthermore, the Supercup was won.

In the following season Carcela -Gonzalez came before with default to the quarter -finals of the Europa League. The eighth place in the championship was achieved in the play- offs for the Europa League starting places of second rank in group B. This season Carcela -Gonzalez came to a total of ten European games ( five in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League ).

In August 2011 Carcela -Gonzalez moved to Russia to Anzhi Makhachkala.

On September 1, 2013 Carcela -Gonzalez returned to Liege.

National

Carcela -Gonzalez, was born the son of a Spanish father and a Moroccan mother, in Liège and grew up there. He played for the Belgian U- 21 team (7 games, 1 goal ) and also completed two A- caps for Belgium, before he decided in December 2010, from now on run for Morocco. His debut for the North Africans, he was on 9 February 2011 in a 3-0 victory over Niger.
