Mehdi Karroubi

Mehdi Karroubi ( مهدی کروبی; * 1937 in Aligudarz in Lorestan ) is an Iranian politician and cleric Shiite val is the religious title Hodschatoleslam Moslems.

Life

Karroubi was president of the Iranian Parliament ( Majlis -e Shora -ye Eslamii ) from 1989 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2004 and a candidate in the Iranian presidential election in 2005. During the first ballot he received 17.24 % of votes.

After losing the presidential election Karroubi founded Etemad -e Melli Party ( National Trust ). After Bahman Nirumand this party establishment served " by strong criticism of the reformers in the right-wing forces to gain more confidence ."
