Mehmet Ali Talat

Mehmet Ali Talât ( born July 6, 1952 in Girne, Kyrenia ) from 2005 to 2010, the President of the internationally unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the Turkish- speaking part of Cyprus.

Mehmet Ali Talât is a politician of Northern Cyprus Turkish Republican Party ( CTP) and was from January 2004 to April 2005 Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus. During this period, which also call for a referendum on the reunification of Cyprus fell, which was affirmed in Northern Cyprus with a large majority, his party and his position reinforced nordzyprischer efforts to reunification has become increasingly popular.

She renewed then the coalition with the Democratic Party Serdar Denktash and Talât remained until the presidential elections prime minister of a provisional government.

The presidential elections on 17 April 2005, Talât clearly decide with 55.6 percent of the vote. The strongest opposition candidate was Derviş Eroğlu of the National Unity Party ( UBP ) of Rauf Denktash, who came to 22.7 % of the vote.

In the presidential elections in April 2010 Talât defeated in the first round just under the UBP candidates Derviş Eroğlu.
