Meir Rosenne

Meir Rosenne ( born February 19, 1931 in Iaşi, Romania) is an Israeli diplomat and jurist of international law.

Rosenne emigrated in 1944 in the British Mandate of Palestine. He studied at the Sorbonne international law and received his bachelor's degree in 1953 ( license ). It was followed by his Master of Laws degree and in 1957 his Ph.D.. Rosenne was a senior lecturer in international law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University and the University of Haifa. From 1969 he was a member of the Israeli Bar Association.

1953 Rosenne began to work for the Israeli Foreign Ministry. From 1961 to 1967 he was consul in New York City. In 1969 he was appointed coordinator and legal adviser to the Israel Atomic Energy Commission. In 1971 he was legal adviser to the Israeli Foreign Ministry in the rank of ambassador. As legal advisor Rosenne Israel represented at various international organizations, including in the International Atomic Energy Agency. In addition, he was a member of the Israeli delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations. He also served as legal adviser to several Israeli-American and Israeli-Syrian negotiations. Rosenne was one of the leading figures behind the Camp David peace accords between Egypt and Israel.

1979 Rosenne was appointed Israeli ambassador to France and held this post until 1983, when he was ambassador to the United States, which he remained until his retirement in 1987.

After his retirement from the diplomatic service, he was from 1989 to 1994 President and Chief Executive Officer of the Israel Bonds Organization Worldwide. He is currently a senior partner in the law firm Balter, Guth, Aloni & Co.

On 15 May 2000 he was awarded the Commandeur de la Légion d' Honneur by the French Legion of Honour.
