Melanospora

Melanospora is a genus of Ascomycota, which is placed in its own order Melanosporales.

Features

The fruiting bodies are perithecia or cleistothecia secondary. The translucent peridium arises from the base of a ascogenous loop. The Center is pseudoparenchymatisch, paraphyses absent. The asci are unitunicat. The ascospores are dark and have at both ends germ pores. The anamorphs are hyphomycetes.

The representatives are often mycoparasites, so are parasitic on other fungi.

System

In Eriksson 2006, the genus nor in the crust ball Fungal ( Hypocreales ) is incorporated. However Melanospora forms in several studies an independent branch outside of this order. They are equipped with the Coronophorales more closely related than with the crustal ball Fungal. 2007, the genus was provided by the formal first description in its own order. The correct name for the family is Ceratostomataceae, Melanosporaceae is not a valid name.
