Melchior Otto Voit von Salzburg

Melchior Otto Voit from Salzburg ( born June 19, 1603 Oak Hausen, † January 4, 1653 ) was Prince-Bishop of Bamberg.

Melchior Otto came from the family of Voit of Salzburg. He was initially Würzburg district judge and choirmaster. On August 25, 1642, he was appointed Bishop of Bamberg. The confirmation was made on 5 May 1643rd

On November 14, 1647, he expanded the former Jesuit College in Bamberg at the Faculties of Philosophy and Theology for Academia Ottoniana. He named it after his patron saint, St. Otto, whose tomb in the Church of St. Michael Bamberger is. The November 14, 1647 is also regarded as the founding of the University of Bamberg, which was expanded under Frederick Karl von Schönborn to traditional four- faculty University.

The prince-bishop's coat of arms is quartered. In exchange, it shows the coat of arms of the Bishopric of Bamberg and the family coat of arms, a black zigzag bars on a silver background.
