Melchior Russ

Melchior soot or carbon black ( * 1450 in Lucerne, † July 20, 1499 ) was a Swiss historian.

Russ was town clerk in Lucerne. 1479 and 1488 he went as ambassador to Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary, knighted him, and fell in the Swabian War 1499th

From 1482 to 1488 he wrote a to 1412 reaching Lucerne Chronicle, one of the oldest historical works, which reports (published by Faster, Kopp and Wurstemberger, Bern 1834, 1838) of William Tell.
