Melide causeway

As the causeway of Melide (Ponte di Melide or Ponte Diga ) of the artificial dam is called bridging the Strait of Lake Lugano between Melide and Bissone in the Swiss canton of Ticino.

The dam was built in 1848 by Pasquale Lucchini and is of national importance. Here the main road 2, the A2 motorway and the Gotthard Railway crossing Lake Lugano. The dam forms the direct connection between the two cities within Switzerland Lugano and Chiasso. It is used by over 55,000 road vehicles ( 2000 ) daily.

On the western side of the dam is located right along the national road and the railway line the tourist offer Swiss Miniatur, an open-air facility, which is a miniature Switzerland.
