Melissa is a macro virus that gained worldwide notoriety when it caused great damage to computers in 1999 year. Melissa sent billions of emails, which led and many companies, including IBM and Microsoft to congestion, prompting to turn off their networks from time to time. The damage is estimated at around 80 million dollars.

Was programmed the virus by David L. Smith, who was convicted after his capture to 20 months in prison.
