Melrand
Melrand ( Breton: Mêlrant ) is a commune with 1504 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Pays de Baud.
Geography
Melrand located in the southern part of central Brittany and part of the Pays de Pontivy.
Neighboring municipalities are Guern in the north, Bieuzy in the northeast, Pluméliau in the east, Saint -Barthélemy in the southeast, south and Quistinic Bubry in the West.
The place is located away from major thoroughfares. The river Sarre runs just southwest of the village.
Demographics
History
The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro - Gwened (French Vannetais ) and within this region to region Bro Baod (French Pays de Baud) and shares his story. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801 Melrand was the capital of the canton Melrand. Since then, the place is assigned to the Canton Josselin.
