Guern

Guern ( Breton: Gwern ) is a commune with 1395 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Pontivy Communauté.

Geography

Guern is located in the north of the department of Morbihan and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring municipalities are Séglien in the north, Malguénac in the northeast, Le Sourn in the east, in the southeast Bieuzy, Melrand in the south, southwest, and Locmalo Bubry in the northwest.

The place is a bit away from roads for inter-regional traffic. The most important road is the D700/D768 (formerly Route nationale 168), which passes more than ten kilometers east of the community. Through the village, even the D1 from Roudouallec goes according Péaule, a road link across the whole Morbihan department.

The most important body of water is the river Sarre, which flows through the western part of the municipality.

Demographics

History

The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro Gwened (French Vannetais ) and within this region to region Bro Pondi (French Pays de Pontivy ) and shares his story. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801 belonged to the canton of Guern Melrand. Since then, the place is assigned to the Canton Pontivy.
