Pontivy

Pontivy ( Pondi in Breton ) is a commune with 14,011 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It is sub-prefecture of the same arrondissement and is the capital of the canton.

Geography

Pontivy hotel is located on the river Blavet and the Canal de Nantes à Brest, which opens here in the Blavet.

History

The monk Ivy Pontivy founded in the 7th century. He built a bridge over the Blavet, which gave the town its name. On 18 Brumaire of the Year XII of the revolution (9 November 1804), the name of the city in Napoléonville was changed. After the fall of Napoleon I was her name again Pontivy, then Bourbon Ville, again several years ( under Napoleon III. ) Napoléonville.
