Melt-Banana

Melt-Banana is a Japanese noise rock band that was founded in 1992 in Tokyo. The original band consisted Yako (also Yasuko Onuki ) ( vocals), Agata (guitar), Rika (bass) and Sudoh (drums). Since the departure Sudohs is Melt-Banana today from Yako singer, guitarist AGATA, bassist Rinka mm and a rotating cast on drums. The band has their first, produced by Steve Albini album "Speak Squeak Creak " published in 1994 and since then 6 more Studioalbem, one produced by John Zorn live album, about 19 split EPs with other groups and an album with all between 1994 and 1999 released singles released.

Singer Yako written all the lyrics alone, which this is a very personal character, which is highlighted by the distinctive high-pitched, choppy and sometimes almost manic vocals even further. All texts are written in the English language.

In addition to the significant voice, the sound of the band by a very rhythmic bass, quick stop- and-go beats on the drums and also a unique guitar work stands out. AGATA guitarist shines not so much by his technique than by the skillful use of multiple sequencer for guitar loops and the use of the whammy, an effects device, known among other things, Steve Vai and Tom Morello. A bottleneck is often used.

With their first release, the Japanese coined the term japan -core, but were respected in the noise scene. The technique of recording was from album to album clean and defined; the arrangements became more comprehensive and deeper. Soon the band was more popular in the U.S. than in Japan, resulting in several major U.S. tours ( here the material for the live album was collected ) followed. Also in Europe, the band performed so far on a few times.

Meanwhile, the band also has her own label called A- Zap Records, on which all the albums were re-released. Exception is the live album " MxBx 1998/13000 Miles AT HIGH VELOCITY ", which is distributed through John Zorn's Tzadik label. Also sold on the Tzadik solo album by guitarist AGATA, "Spike ".
