Melusina von der Schulenburg, Countess of Walsingham

Petronella Melusina von der Schulenburg, Countess of Walsingham ( born April 1, 1693 Hannover, † September 16, 1778 in London) was a German - English noblemen.

Life

Petronella Melusine was the illegitimate daughter of the Elector of Brunswick- Lüneburg ( " electoral Hanover " ) and later King George I of Great Britain and Ireland ( 1660-1727 ) and his longtime mistress, the Countess Ehrengard Melusine von der Schulenburg ( 1667-1743 ).

Together with her mother she came to England in 1716, following her the title of Countess of Walsingham (1722) was awarded in the form of a non- hereditary title as (Life Peer ). In 1733, Petronella Melusine married the politician of the Whig Party and former secretary of the Lady Henrietta Howard, Countess of Suffolk, Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield ( 1694-1773 ). The marriage remained childless. However, it is suspected that they with Charles Calvert, 5th Baron Baltimore, had an illegitimate son, Benedict Calvert Swingate.
