Geography and Facts

Melville is located east of the Crazy Mountains and west of Route 191 in the northern Sweet Grass County north of the city of Big Timber, the County Seat of Sweet Grass County.

Melville has a post office with ZIP code 59055, which was opened on 4 January 1883.

The rest house Big Sky Corners in Melville on Route 191 is seen as a filming location in the movie The Horse Whisperer with Robert Redford in 1998. Redford uses in a scene, the phone booth in front of the rest house.

Melville Lutheran Church

Evangelical Lutheran immigrants from Norway founded in 1885 in Melville, the first Lutheran congregation of Montana, the associated cemetery was consecrated on 8 November 1885. In November 1914, finally was the consecration of the church, the Melville Lutheran Church. They can also be seen in the feature film The Horse Whisperer as a filming location.
