Melvin Seals

Melvin Seals ( born 1953 in San Francisco, California) is an American musician who was best known as the organist in the Jerry Garcia Band.

Life

Melvin Seals began in 1970 to play piano. Early in his career, he played the organ in his church -based, until it finally worked with personalities such as Charlie Daniels, Elvin Bishop and Chuck Berry.

Projects

End of the year 1980, he joined the Jerry Garcia Band. He played alongside Jerry Garcia (guitar, vocals ), John Kahn ( bass), Jimmy Warren (keyboards, clavinet ) and Daoud Shaw ( drums) at the organ. Melvin accompanied the band to perform in different occupation, until its dissolution after Jerry Garcia's death in 1995., The last members of the band consisted of Jerry Garcia (guitar, vocals ), John Kahn ( bass), Melvin Seals ( organ), David Kemper (drums), Jaclyn LaBranch (vocals) and Gloria Jones ( vocals).

Shortly after the death of Jerry Garcia's Melvin Seals, Jerry Garcia decided to continue heritage and founded the JGB band in 1995, which currently consists of Elgin Seals, Cheryl Rucker, Judah Gold, David Kemper, Armin Winter, Jacklyn LaDranch and Gloria Jones (as: August 2013).
