The Mendenhall Station is a railway station in the town of Menden (Sauerland) and is served by the Hönnetal train. It is located southwest of the city center at the Hönne. The station was opened in 1872.

Station area

The complex of the station once included a kiosk, a restaurant, a transportation ticketing, baggage handling, and a clearance of goods. The station building itself is currently unused and greatly in need of repair. It was purchased by an investor in 2009. For further reorganization and use of the station area a development plan has been discussed.

2010 had been intended to tear down the station building and temporarily use the resulting open space as a parking lot. However, the heritage community that owns the station came to the conclusion that a demolition would only be worth it if a new building would be built on the vacant land. This would be because there would be many technical problems during the demolition that would make the demolition inefficient without new construction.

In 2011, it was announced that the investor List Wilber's project development on the derelict station area plans to build several retail markets. November 20, 2011 confirmed the city administration Menden and the investor that the official ground-breaking ceremony will be held for this station project on 16 December 2011. Planned are an Edeka supermarket, a discount store and several specialty stores such as drugstores, shoe and sporting goods markets.

2012 all the old station buildings were demolished and replaced by new buildings. The former station building was reconstructed. The foundation stone of this took place on 24 August 2012. The old train station pedestrian underpass was eliminated. Access to the railroad tracks is now at ground level.
