Menet

Menet is a commune with 503 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Cantal in the Auvergne region; it belongs to the administrative district Mauriac and the canton of Riom -ès- Montagnes.

Geography

The community is located approximately six kilometers northwest of the capital of the canton Riom- ès- Montagnes in the Regional Natural Park Volcans d' Auvergne. Neighboring communities of Menet are:

  • Saint- Étienne -de- Chomeil in the north,
  • Riom- ès- Montagnes in the east,
  • Valette in the south,
  • Trizac in the southwest,
  • Le Monteil in the West ( already in the neighboring department of Haute- Loire )
  • La Monselie in the northwest.

In the east of the municipality in the western part of the river Sumene its tributary Violon in a northwesterly direction is north. North of the village is the lake Lac de Menet Menet which drains to Sumene.

Transport links

The eastern municipality is crossed by the road department D3, which runs in a north-westerly direction from Riom- ès- Montagnes and opens between Ydes and Bort- les- Orgues in the D922. In parallel, also passes a railway track, where today the tourist Gentian Express train.
