Meral AkÅŸener

Meral Akşener ( born July 18, 1956 in Izmit ) is a Turkish politician, Member of Parliament and MHP deputy since August 10, 2007 Chairman of the Grand National Assembly. She was from 8 November 1996 to 30 June 1997, Interior Minister of Turkey.

Biography

Meral Akşener was the daughter of Tahir Omer and Sıddıka in Izmiter district Gündoğdu. She studied history at the Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences of the University of Istanbul. Thereafter, she obtained the degree Doctor at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Marmara University. According to studies, she worked in the Yıldız Technical University, Kocaeli University and Marmara University as a teacher.

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, she was elected as a MHP deputy for the province of Istanbul in the Grand National Assembly. It is next to Senol Bal one of the two female members of parliament of the MHP.

She is married and mother of a child.
