Istanbul Province

Istanbul (Turkish: İstanbul ) is a Turkish province in the northwest of the country, with the capital İstanbul. Its area is 5343.02 km ².

The official population of the Istanbul province was, according to census of 2009 12.915.158, of which the city of Istanbul, the area with the province of Istanbul is almost identical, but had 12,782,960 inhabitants. Slightly more than 86 percent of the population of Istanbul are incurred by rural exodus from all over Turkey, mostly from Eastern, Southeastern and Central Anatolia and from the Black Sea region.
