Mercan Dede Ensemble is a music group that combines modern electronic elements with traditional Sufi spirituality. This group was founded in 1997 by the Turks Arkın Ilıcalı ( b. 1966 ), who now lives in Montreal (Canada) and works under the stage name Mercan Dede and DJ Arkin Allen. He says of himself that he sees himself in the spirit of the Whirling Dervishes. Dede is a historical Turkish term of respect for leaders of dervish communities.

The Mercan Dede Ensemble combines traditional Sufi spirituality with modern electronic sounds, with oriental melodies on techno sound, violin and percussion meet. Traditional music instruments such as ney ( reed flute ), Bendix (frame drum ) and Zarp brings Mercan Dede in his musical project with.
