Dede (religious figure)

Dede ( Turkish for grandfather, ancestor, ancestor ) is awarded to leading persons of Dervish Communities honorary title. Alternatives are ata ( ancestor ) and baba (father).

Historically documented is the term used in early sources as the " collection of dialects of the Turks" ( Diwan Lughat at- Turk ) of Kaşgari and in later Turkish Dede Korkut rhapsodies like the stories. Dede Korkut is in these stories also called Korkut Ata. Dede can appear before or after the name of a person. After the person's name, the title is V.A. out at Mevlevi dervishes. Before the name of the title came several times before in Anatolia, such as on a deed of foundation of the Principality of Germiyanoğulları.

Also, Dede was used as a respectful title for applicable as sacred miracle worker in Istanbul and Anatolia, eg in the travelogues of Evliya Çelebi. Dede was as Dada, plural: Dadagan borrowed into Persian. In Safavid terminology dada described the small group who oversaw the Murshid. The Safavids were originally in the 14th century, a tariqa ( mystical orders).
