Mercedes Chilla

Mercedes Chilla (Mercedes Chilla López, born January 19, 1980 in Jerez de la Frontera) is a Spanish javelin thrower.

In the U23 European Championships in Amsterdam in 2001 she won silver, and at the Universiade 2003 in Daegu bronze.

In 2004, she retired in qualifying at the Olympic Games in Athens. The following year, she won bronze at the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almería, but failed at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in the first round. In 2006, she won bronze at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. An off in qualifying at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka followed a ninth place finish at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

While again not it past at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin and the 2011 World Cup on the first round, it was 2010 Latin American Champion and sixth at the European Championships in Barcelona.

Nine times in a row it was Spanish champion ( 2003-2011 ). Three times she represented a national record ( 62.32 m on July 24, 2004, Castellón; 63,20 m 20 August, 2006, Monaco; 64.07 m 12 June, 2010, Valencia).

Mercedes Chilla is 1,70 m tall, weighs 60 kg and is coached by José María Vega.
