Mercedes Helnwein

Mercedes Helnwein ( born November 12, 1979 in Vienna) is an Austrian visual artist, writer and video artist.

Life

Mercedes Helnwein was born as the daughter of Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein in Vienna. She lived until 1985 in Vienna, after which she moved with her family to Germany. Since 1997 she lives in Tipperary in Ireland and in Downtown Los Angeles. She wrote and recorded since their earliest youth. When she was 13 years old, the German feminist magazine Emma published her comic The men are fighting back. Her artistic works, Mercedes Helnwein is dedicated primarily to the large-format drawing with pencil, colored pencil, ink and pastel on paper. However, it also works in watercolor and oil technique.

In her videos she handled similar issues as in their drawings: people in absurd and mysterious situations, often together with other people to whom they appear to be a disturbing and not to be decrypted manner in relationship. In 2004 she joined forces with the American artist Alex Prager the publisher Devils Porchlight Press. After several short stories and short stories, her novel The Potential Hazards of Hester Day was published in 2008 by Simon & Schuster in New York.
