Merial

Merial is a pharmaceutical company focused on the manufacture of medicinal products for veterinary supplies.

The company is registered in the UK and is headquartered in Duluth, in the U.S. state of Georgia.

Financial Indicators

Merial employs over 5,700 people and operates in more than 150 countries. In 2008, the turnover achieved worldwide amounted to over 2.6 billion U.S. dollars.

The German office is located since December 1997 in the Upper Bavarian Hallbergmoos, very close to the Munich airport. Merial Germany employs approximately 100 employees.

History

1997, the company established as a 50:50 joint venture between MSG Agvet (MSD Sharp & Dohme ) and Merioux Rhone ( Rhone- Poulenc) was founded. Rhône- Poulenc, which merged in late 1999 with the German group Hoechst AG for Aventis, and was called after another merger Sanofi -Aventis, in 2009 took over the 50 - % share of MSD Sharp & Dohme, which in the course of the merger with Schering -Plough was offered. Merial has since the division of Sanofi Animal Health.

In March 2010 it was announced that Merial with Intervet / Schering -Plough wants to form a new joint venture in which the two parent companies Sanofi ( Merial ) and MSD Sharp & Dohme ( Intervet / Schering- Plough) holding 50 % would be. Because this was complicated antitrust rules and for other reasons of both companies abandoned in March 2011.

Criticism

In August 2007, a laboratory of Merial with the infection of a cow stock in Surrey ( UK ) has been associated with foot-and- mouth disease ( FMD).
