Mérieux family

The Mérieux family is a family of entrepreneurs from Lyon in France. The family members are founders of companies like Sanofi Pasteur, bioMérieux ( In Vitro Diagnostics) and Merial (products for veterinarians ), but also the Fondation Marcel Mérieux, the S4- laboratory " Jean Mérieux " and the humanitarian organization Bioforce.

Genealogy

  • Marcel Mérieux (1870-1937), in 1891 a student at the École Supérieure de Chimie Industrielle de Lyon ( short ESCIL ), former assistant of Louis Pasteur, founder of the Mérieux Biological Institute in Lyon ( Institut Mérieux ) in 1897 (now part of Sanofi Pasteur ). Jean Mérieux, Doctor. Died at 26 of meningitis caused by tuberculosis, which he had contracted in the family lab.
  • Charles Mérieux (1907-2001), physician and entrepreneur. Founder of the Fondation Marcel Mérieux, humanitarian organization Bioforce and the S4- laboratory " Jean Merieux ". Jean Mérieux ( -1994 ) died in a car accident in 1994.
  • Alain Mérieux (1938 - ), Doctor of Pharmacy and entrepreneurs. Founder of bioMérieux. Christophe Mérieux ( 1967-14 July. , 2006 ), doctor. Kidnapping victim at the age of 9 years ( freed for a ransom of 20 million francs ), died from heart failure at the age of 39 years.
