Meritites I.

Meritites I was a queen of ancient Egyptian 4th Dynasty. It was long considered a daughter of Pharaoh Sneferu, but is now considered rather than his wife. The only safe evidence that call names and titles of Meritites, are now lost false door fragment and relief fragments from the double mastaba G 7110-7120, Giza. Probably also attributable Meritites are some more relief fragments that were found inside the chapel belonging to the Great Pyramid of Cheops pyramid Queens G Ib and in their immediate vicinity.

Family

In Meritites ' titulary three kings are mentioned. It bears the title, " The great at award 'of Sneferu " and " The big to award ' of Cheops ". Although it was long regarded as the daughter of Sneferu, but since it bears the same title both in regard to him and to his successor Khufu, is now believed that it was originally a concubine of Sneferu and after his death in Cheops ' passed Harem and was made by him to the Queen. You must still have been very young when Sneferu took her to wife, because of her second marriage to come Cheops at least two children.

One of these children was a daughter named Hetepheres II, which can be reconstructed from fragments of relief from the mastaba. Hetepheres was first with Kawab, a son of Sneferu and married after his death with Khufu's son and successor Radjedef.

As the second child of Meritites and later King Cheops Chephren can be accepted, as this is the third king, who appears in a title of Meritites ( " Venerable at Chephren "). In his reign also falls to her death, she probably suffered only in old age.

Tomb

As a tomb of Meritites is probably the middle of the three queens pyramids ( G Ib) east of Khufu's pyramid to look at. This is suggested relief fragments out with a typical title for them, which were found in the chapel of the pyramid and its immediate vicinity. The pyramid consists of limestone blocks and has a side length of approximately 48 m. The original height was 30.5 m.
