Meritxell Mateu i Pi

Meritxell Mateu i Pi ( born January 19, 1966) is a diplomat and politician from Andorra.

Biography

After school she studied history at the Université Montpellier III ( Université Paul Valéry ) and graduated with a licentiate. After she completed further studies in International Relations at the Free Institute for the Study of International Relations in Paris.

Upon her return to Andorra, she joined the diplomatic service and was initially from 1995 at the same time Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Permanent Representative of the Euro Europe as well as Ambassador to France. In the meantime, she was accredited in 1997 as ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg. In addition, it was in 1998 briefly Ambassador of the Netherlands and in Denmark in 1999.

Between 1999 and 2004 she served as Ambassador of Andorra in the Federal Republic of Germany and in this role in 2001 for a short time ambassador to Slovenia.

Upon her return to Andorra, she was appointed by the Chairman of the Government of Andorra Albert Pintat Santolària the Minister for Housing, education, youth and research in May 2005. As part of a government reshuffle she was then in place of July Minoves Triquell of 2 May 2007 to the end of Pintat Santolàrias tenure in June 2009, Foreign Minister of Andorra.
