Merkury Vagin

Merkury Wagin (Russian Меркурий Вагин, scientific transliteration Merkurij Vagin, † 1712 on the Great Liakhov Island ) was a Russian explorer and polar explorers in the late 17th and early 18th century.

1712 he explored together with Yakov Permyakov the the Arctic archipelago of the New Siberian Islands belonging to Great Liakhov Island, Permyakov had first spotted two years earlier. At the top of a 12 -strong Cossack unit they reached the island of Jana's mouth out with dog sled across the ice of the Laptewstraße. On the way back, both were killed by mutinous members of the expedition.
