Mesfin Hagos

Mesfin Hagos (* in the 20th century in Quazien, Central Region Maekel, Eritrea ) is an Eritrean politician, who has lived in exile since 2001.

Life

Hagos left at the age of 19 years, the school in order in 1966 to join the Eritrean Befreiunungsfront (ELF ). It was also because of his language skills, selected to study at the Whampoa Military Academy in Nanjing in the People's Republic of China, the basic techniques of guerrilla craft. The People's Republic at the time supported the Eritrean rebels in their fight against the Empire of Abyssinia to the independence of the country. Hagos was then deputy commander of the ELF combat zone 5

Hagos and Isaias Afewerki in 1970 left the ELF, but continued to fight for the independence of Eritrea. Hagos was a founding member of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front ( EPLF ) and very soon became chief of staff of the combat units of the party. His greatest military success was the victory in the Battle of Afabet in which it succeeded the Eritreans encircle larger Ethiopian associations and defeat. In the battle Hagos had the Afewerkis command disregards to withdraw to Nakfa. The victory of the way was paved to liberate important cities like Asmara or the port of Massawa.

After the independence of Eritrea in 1991 Hagos Afewerki just going down in the presidential election, and was for one year, the defense minister of the country. The EPLF was in 1993 a democratic veneer and is called to this day the People's Front for Democracy and Justice ( PFDJ ). 1995 Hagos left the post of defense minister and became head of the regional administration of Debub, the southern Eritrea.

Hagos signed in 2001 with 15 other politicians and military Eritrea (Group of 16 - G16 ) an open letter to the now acting as a dictator Afewerki, in which they demanded the promised the independence of the state constitution, the registration of opposition parties and free elections. Hagos is now a member of the Eritrean Democratic Party, which operates in exile.
