Messeturm Köln

The Fair Tower Cologne is located on the northwest corner of the Rhine halls, which were part of the exhibition grounds of Koelnmesse. The 80 meter high tower was built together with the complex of Rheinhallen 1922-1928.

There is a sculpture of three faces, which Hermes, messenger of the gods, and to God the merchants symbolize, on its roof. As a god of merchants, the sculpture represented a symbol of the state taking place in the exhibition halls exhibitions. The gear (rear) symbolizes the industry, the laurel wreath (left), the art and the wing (right) trade in the form of the messenger god Hermes and the fish the nearby Rhine.

The fair tower is indeed dominated by many municipal buildings, but it still represents an important landmark in the city of Cologne dar. He stands as the Rheinhallen surrounding conservation area. It was built in 1927 under the Cologne City Planning Director Adolf Abel as a steel skeleton construction with attached brick facade, just like the exhibition halls surrounding it. This was the modern architecture of the time. The steel structure was built by the company Humboldt AG from Cologne-Kalk, one of the predecessor companies of today's Deutz AG. He was inaugurated in time for Pressa ( an international press exhibition ), which began on 12 May 1928. On the top floor there was a tower restaurant which is now closed.
