Metaphilosophy

Metaphilosophy (. Μετά AltGr φιλοσοφία: the philosophy below or on the philosophy referring ) referred to research programs that investigate the conditions and the nature of philosophical concepts, problems and attempted solutions.

General

The term " Metaphilosophy " are discussed in a science or meta-theory of philosophy since the mid-20th century approaches that have been previously considered only within demarcated topics of philosophy. The advent of metaphilosophy as a discipline can be understood as a response to the contemporary critique of metaphysics and sociology of knowledge. Metaphilosophical arguments have since been used in all the philosophical currents. However, they are a stylistic feature of representatives of the philosophical " postmodernism ".

The systematic issues metaphilosophy include:

• Has the philosophy a particular subject area which is delineated by the areas of the individual sciences?
• Is philosophy a science?
• What role has the philosophy?
• What kind of language does the philosophy or should they speak?
• Has the philosophy one or more knowledge-constitutive methods that are specific to them?
• Is there a theoretical framework for all philosophical individual studies?

There have been various attempts to define as the conceptual analysis, the transcendental argument, the thought experiment or intuition as a philosophical methods clear or traditional to integrate unusual quantitative and empirical methods in the philosophy or to complain as the basic methodologies. This methodological debates are still controversial.

To the rank of a general framework theory compete in metaphilosophical debates eg naturalism, pragmatism, or Critical Rationalism. There is a subtask of Metaphilosophy, such a framework theories to solve historical statements to clearly delineate each other and compare their expectable yield.

Since the systematic discussion of these questions partly still is relatively young, hardly usual terminology have for individual branches of metaphilosophy been established, with the exception of those that relate to established classification of the philosophical disciplines: meta-ethics; Metaontologie and Metametaphysik.
