Methanobrevibacter smithii

Methanobrevibacter smithii is an obligate anaerobic, fluorescent, methanogenic archaeon that is widely used as intestinal inhabitants, in the vagina and in the dental flora in humans and other mammals. The organism recovered hydrogen and carbon dioxide, which are secreted by other microorganisms of the intestinal flora as metabolic products. M. smithii forms thereof gaining energy methane and water. The archaeon it one of the hydrogenotrophic methanogens.
