Method (music)

A school ( eng.: method ) is instrumental in the educational sense, a kind of textbook for a particular musical instrument or a selected part of the problem instrumental playing.

A school usually contains fingering charts, or fingerings, tablature, etc., scales and numerous different exercises, sometimes also simple etudes, in different keys, ordered by increasing difficulty ( = in a methodical progression) or on certain aspects such as fluency, rhythm, dynamics, articulation and the like. In addition, sometimes performance pieces, also with accompanying voices.

The classical instrumental method is intended for self-study because less than textbook for instrumental lessons. Detailed explanations about to basics or certain playing techniques, can be found only in special ( self-taught ) Schools ( " self-learning book" ).

Some schools are tailored to their difficulty or their presentation specifically on learners certain skill or development stages. A "complete" school, often in several volumes, should accompany the learner contrast to advanced play on his instrument.

Schools of certain authors are sometimes considered standard works ( with regional and cultural differences) and are sometimes published by different publishers and in different ( re) arrangements.
